Medina Fiber Partners with Ohio Edison to Push Fiber Network Forward
45,000 Residents and Businesses Scheduled to Receive Service
Earlier this month, Medina Fiber celebrated a big milestone: “lighting up” the first customers to receive high-speed fiber internet in Medina County. Over the next few years, 45,000 more residents and businesses are scheduled to receive service. Building a network that connects the entire county takes time, but a strong partnership between Medina Fiber and Ohio Edison is pushing the project forward.
“We can’t overstate how helpful it has been to collaborate closely with Ohio Edison over the last few weeks. We’re working towards a common goal of offering the county’s first and only fiber-to-the-home network for residents of Medina County,” says Chris Kirkland, Vice President of Market Deployments. “Every fiber network operator hopes for a strong relationship with utility pole owners, and we’ve been lucky to have that with Ohio Edison.”
In some parts of the country, slow right-of-way application processes can slow or even halt plans to build fiber networks. Ohio Edison, on the other hand, is expediting the application process to keep the project moving forward.
“Medina Fiber has been open to our input and quick to provide what we need to ensure the network is built safely and efficiently,” says Mark Josef, General Supervisor of Engineering Services at Ohio Edison. “We’re working together to get people connected in a cost-effective and timely manner.”
A strong partnership between Medina Fiber and Ohio Edison removes barriers to construction, and both companies look forward to seeing many more businesses and residents get connected in the months to come.
